The Spring and Airbrake’, Belfast will play host to ‘darkVision Promotions’ inaugural non-charitable music gig.
‘darkVision Promotions’ was conceived in January 2007, by Glenn McKnight, after he organized a charity gig in aid of American charity – Invisible Children www.invisiblechildren.com .
Now seven months on, and still in its early development stages, darkVision is set to revolutionize the Northern Ireland gig scene. They aim to do this via a number of online projects, and numerous unique gig concepts and venues.
The night will be headlined by EXIT, a hard-hitting melodic rock band from Belfast/Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Formed in summer of 2004 by cousins Chris Logan and Shane Watters with the goal of bringing proper rock ‘n’ roll, quality song-craft, innovation and entertainment values back to the main-stage of modern music. They’ve received airplay on a number of radio stations. These include, but are not limited to, Belfast’s very own CoolFM and Downtown Radio.
The band has been gigging constantly in all the major venues in Belfast, Derry, Dublin and the UK. Recently the band supported “Starsailor” and completed a multi-date tour of the UK which included a date in the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool. So with everything in place the band is looking forward to the future and the hope that they get to reach as many people as possible with their music and fulfill their dreams.
Supporting ‘EXIT’, will be Belfast bands ‘The Shots’ and ‘The Black Diamond Doubles’.
The Shots are a quartet who play Muse-inspired, whiskey-fuelled twisted indie rock. They have been together for just over 12 months, they released their debut EP in August 2006.
The band have already picked up the Arts&Culture Music Award for Northern Ireland and have last year had a TOP 15 release in the Irish Charts via Blast:Beat Records (released 12th May 2006). Surprisingly, the band have a mere average age of just 17 years.
“To say they rock might be the understatement of the year… with a voice at times comparable to Robert Plant at best.” (ROADHOUSE MAGAZINE)
The Black Diamond Doubles, who will be kicking the night off formed in 2006. The band works hard writing and playing their own brand of rock. The band was formed by Peter White and Adam Lunn, Sitting in work they decided it was time to start making music of their own after many years of playing covers in local bands.
The search for a Lead singer and guitarist had started and after trying many different combinations the answer was found in Stevie Hackett. Stevie gathered his experience playing as solo singer/song writer and played the local music scene before joining BDD.
After gigging most of the local area, the band continually aims to improve its songs and live performances. There has been a great reaction so far from those who have seen the band, including reviews in local papers and radio airplay. There have been no efforts to copy current trends but simply for the three members to write and play music they enjoy.
“Relative new comers Black Diamond Doubles formed in early 2006 and have been earning a solid reputation as writers and performers of good original material ever since” Patrick Baird, Belfast Telegraph 2006.
Also present will be ‘ECHO SEVEN RADIO’, the first of darkVision Promotions unique promotional initiatives. Echo Seven Radio, is a new free internet radio station. The stations track listings will consist of completely unsigned and donated music. While specializing in local unsigned talent, Echo Seven will also air some new music from across the global with many international acts already signed up. On the 9th of August, Echo Seven Radio will perform it’s first ever live recording of a gig, which will later be aired on the station, and then available ON-Demand.
