NYC rapper, C4. Benard has just dropped the music video to accompany his recent single Sign ft. Prince Smith.
A warm and charismatic hip-hop number, the song pokes fun at the ascribing importance to astrology in romantic relationships and the complications that have personally arisen for him around the subject:
“Sign is about the connection between astrology and love. I wrote it for fun after a girl turned me down for being a Gemini.”
Upbeat with an easy flow, it’s an airy, feel-good production featuring dynamic bass, eclectic soundboards, and flourishes of glossy guitars. The sleek and simple music video features an exasperated C4. Benard alongside his discerning love interest miming the lyrics and vibing in a sunlit, colorfully painted empty loft space.
The 20-year-old talent began his rapping career at the tender age of five and cites Nas, Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent as some of his inspirations in his study of the hip-hop medium. Previously performing as “C4”, he has released 4 full-length projects to date and has built a loyal fanbase, some of those obtained through viral social media posts, which have also led to attention from the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Bleacher Report among others.
C4. Benard has been praised for his capacity to explore weighty and polarising topics with earnestness and maturity, and a high-quality sound that marks him as one to watch.
