Canada based Nigerian singer, songwriter and poet BUWA has kicked off 2020 with his enchanting new music for Eminlo. The track is one of the highlights included in his successful debut EP Olu, which gave the greatest possible ending to 2019.
In his inclination to storytelling and as a sensational modern soul artist who combines R&B and pop elements, Buwa has a penchant for poetry and performance art. More specifically, he just finished serving as the lead at a stage production of Hairspray and Chicago in Canada and is currently the star of a Jesus Christ Superstar theatre piece in Vancouver.
Referring to the inspiration behind Eminlo, Buwa says, “this track talks about having the strength to finally leave an abusive and toxic relationship. You know it is very hard but you still can’t find the strength to leave”. The excellent collaboration with Vancouver filmmaker Raymond Knight resulted to capture “the personal struggle and anguish it can often take to get out of a toxic relationship, even when you know it’s the best thing for you”.
The sultry jazz soul offering, Eminlo is a production stemming from his frequent collaborator SizzlePRO. The soundscape delivers blissful saxophone arrangements alongside with mild drum arrangements , R&B sensibilities and pining harmonies. All these are tied up by Buwa’s sensitive vocals while he opens up about a past hard relationship experience, which was very difficult to come out of, hence the Yoruba song title, which translates to “I’m leaving” in English.
