Produced by Subculture, the single combines grungy indie-punk textures, propulsive drums and raw vocals.
The track extends her idea of Soft Rage, treating anger as an emotion that must be understood rather than suppressed.
BINA. explains:
I made this song to bookmark the time I spent getting to know and get comfortable with anger that’s lived deep within me for a while but has been suppressed for many years and many reasons. This song is like a condensed version of that process.
Following Zombies, the release moves BINA. further from her R&B, neo-soul and jazz foundations towards the rock and punk influences that have shaped her since her teens. The shift also challenges the limited representation of Black women within those spaces.
Directed by Niya Dre and filmed largely with a body-mounted camera, the video follows BINA. through South London, contrasting the energy of a night out with anxiety, frustration and disassociation.
The Art of Anger does not position punk as a sudden reinvention. It sounds like BINA. finally giving an existing part of her identity the volume it deserves.
