Ayra Starr steps fully into her pop-star era with Starrgirl, a 16-track album spanning Afrobeats, R&B and pop.
Released through Mavin Records and Republic Records, the project pairs Starr’s magnetic vocals with an international guest list. Wizkid appears on the Grammy-nominated Gimme Dat, while ZAYN, Leon Thomas, Rema, kwn, Theodora and Danny Ocean also feature.
Recent singles Tornado and Where Do We Go anchor the record. Starr premiered Tornado during her Tiny Desk debut, while Where Do We Go later received a remix from Peggy Gou.
Starrgirl arrives as the Beninese-Nigerian artist continues to break industry ground. She now holds two Grammy nominations, three MOBO Awards and a BET Award, alongside more than seven billion global streams and one billion YouTube views.
Starr will bring the album to London when she performs at All Points East on 21 August.
With Starrgirl, Ayra Starr isn’t simply chasing crossover success. She is building a borderless version of African pop on her own terms; and inviting the rest of the industry to catch up.
