Having grown up in a musical household and been writing songs from a young age, Danish artist Lasse Matthiessen has supported the likes of Anna Calvi and Suzanne Vega, and is now set to release his new EP.

‘When We Collided’ is a poignant collection of alt-folk offerings, filled with thought-provoking lyrical storytelling and a rich musicality. Inspired by the nocturnal pulse of Paris in the summer, the EP opener and title track introduces you to Matthiessen’s smooth swooning vocals and the perfectly dreamy harmonies of Sara Hartman. As effervescent melodies flow, an emotion-strewn sweeping soundscape is created.

Continuing the ethereal splendour, ‘Sycamore Trees’ oozes an uplifting charm alongside intricate finger-picking, reminiscent of José González, whilst ‘Sorte Søer’ layers sparkling synths and hazy hooks with Matthiessen’s heartfelt vocals, in the vein of Icelandic band Sigur Ros.

Showcasing the majestic cinematic power that Matthiessen is capable of creating, ‘Broken Choir’ and ‘Alchemist Fire’ draw the EP to a close with delicate, folk-fused melodies that tug at the heartstrings in all the right ways.

A truly moving collection, ‘When We Collided’ offers a unique, fragile beauty and soaring emotion that is bound to seduce new listeners with its captivating, musically rich, power.

‘When We Colllided’, the new EP from Lasse Matthiessen, is out now via Zpektakel Records / The Orchard.
