Dex Channels was born Born in Alabama and raised in Florida, and has lived there all his life. Artists such as André 3000 and EarthGang were also born in that same area and are constantly redefining what music is.

You can see an artist’s early allegiance to self-expression in his debut EP. ‘On Guns Go Off in the Summertime’, one good example is “Last Sunday,” where Dex speaks about PTSD among black youths in the Southern United States.

In a time when words are often misconstrued and forgotten, the truly talented wordsmith Dex has an impressive new single out. The ‘80s-inspired song, Nirvana is produced by Billboard charting producer BNYX and is a single that might very well stand the test of time.

Nirvana has a danceable rhythm and beautiful guitar work. It’s a perfect backdrop for Dex’s dynamic rap to do what it does best. An aptly stunning video was also released alongside the track and it was directed by Prswrkvisuals.

Dex explains: “‘Nirvana’ is about going within and creating heaven on earth to escape the hellish state most people live in today. It’s about embracing both the feminine and masculine principles of creation, to be fluid. In the video, I’m an angel who fell to earth. I have huge wings, and I’m roller-skating around Atlanta. It’s a nice plot, and it’s comedic at the same time.”

“This song took me a few weeks to write but once I took it to the studio, I entered a different realm. I only wrote one verse to go along with the hook but I felt this energy within telling me I could do more and I could say more; I listened. I then stopped thinking and was able to freestyle the rest of the song for five minutes straight! It was too long, so we cut half of it and kept it as the closing bridge. ‘Feel it taking over’ was all I kept hearing.”

Dex Channels is proving himself to be a promising artist challenging the norms of this world. He tells you to be your authentic self and shares the truth, even if that truth may put him in conflict with the rest of society.
