Alt-Pop Rising Star TYRA JUTAI Shares Cinematic Video For FRIDA

“The song ‘Frida’ was inspired by a beautiful woman who tried to hook up with my boyfriend while I wasn’t around. I really fixated on the psychology of understanding going after someone else’s lover. Frida and I were lacking love and trying to find it where we could.”

Toronto singer, songwriter, and producer Tyra Jutai has unveiled cinematic visuals for her new single Frida! The single was written and produced by Tyra and award-winning Montreal producer John Nathaniel, whose name is behind the works of Gwen Stefani, One Republic, Kygo.

Frida represents an exquisite slow-burning gloomy pop song driven by marching drums and cinematic string arrangements. In her track, Tyra sings a gripping tale of betrayal, jealousy, and ultimate revenge between lovers and best friends. Her sensual soul vocals help to better dive into the song’s poignant lyrics.

Tyra shared her inspiration behind the Frida single: “The song Frida was inspired by a beautiful woman who tried to hook up with my boyfriend while I wasn’t around. I really fixated on the psychology of understanding going after someone else’s lover. Frida and I were lacking love and trying to find it where we could.” She adds: “I am thanking Frida for pointing out a world of trouble in my relationship that was bubbling below the surface, waiting for a catalyst to unravel it all.”

The artist’s ability to turn pain and betrayal into the beauty of art leads Tyra to exploring the psychology of her female opponent, while imagining herself in the enemy’s shoes: “Frida could have been me”.

Frida was taken from Tyra’s 2021 6-track conceptual EP You Weren’t A Muse inspired by Golden Age Hollywood actress, singer, and sex symbol Mae West and her classic 1933 movie ‘I’m No Angel’.

Singer’s retro inspiration can be clearly seen in a high-quality music video conceptualized by Jutai and burgeoning creative director Piper Ellis. The “Frida” visuals give the audience vibes of modern Hitchcock while the song serves as a flawless soundtrack to its short movie! Tyra’s incredible acting skills let the singer play herself and Frida’s heroine.

The Toronto native has created an undeniable artistic expression by weaving together all facets of her creative mind – from her music and the arts to fashion and poetry. Tyra Jutai shows no signs of slowing down so stay tuned for more amazing projects very soon!
