Liverpool pop artist Alexa Joyce follows her debut single I WANT YA with Sex on TV, shifting from playful flirtation towards a darker disco sound.

A pulsing bassline, driving drums and shimmering production give her second release a more nocturnal feel, with rhythm at the centre.

For Joyce, the track was also a turning point in how people responded to her music:

Sex on TV was the first song I played people that I felt made them look at me differently as an artist. It was kind of my lightning in a bottle moment that made me feel like I was truly onto something. The song is super dark yet still Disco. The bass and drums, I feel, are really reminiscent of Madonna’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, which for me, is one of the greatest Pop albums of all time!”

The release follows a sold-out debut single launch party and performance at New York’s Stonewall Inn, bringing her early material to a venue with a significant place in LGBTQ+ history.

Raised in Liverpool, Joyce channels Kylie Minogue, Donna Summer and the Spice Girls into her mix of disco nostalgia and contemporary pop.

Her development has included collaboration or mentorship with Mark Ronson, DJ Cassidy, Burns and Dave Gibson, across Los Angeles, London and New York. On Sex on TV, the production makes the clearest statement: darker textures, a bass-led pulse, and drums that keep the song moving toward the dance floor.
