ADI | ‘HIGHER’ IS MANLY AND YET FEMININE

adiTel-Aviv sultry singer and producer, ADI (otherwise known as Adi Ulmansky), talks to FM about her lusciously convincing and personal tune ‘Higher’, featuring Atlanta based rapper Curtis Williams, an RnB infused future hip-hop jam, that serves as the first dainty taste of her new EP with the same name, released in October.

How are today Adi? 🙂

So, tell us everything we should know about ‘Higher’ feat. Curtis Williams..

What inspired you to write it?

Well…I wanted to write something that would be as honest as I can and talk about my trust issues, and how I always run away when I feel like I’m about to expose my feelings and take a risk of being hurt. The song also talks about the struggle to try and let go of these fears, and to allow myself to ‘ask for help’, cause all I wanna do is ‘go higher’ – in the sense of growing up, and getting better at dealing with life.

In few words describe your new EP ‘Higher’.

It’s just 100% ADI in the way that it shows who I am and my personality with all it’s layers. It’s edgy, aggressive and raw but also soft, sexy and mellow. It’s manly and yet feminine. it has some forward-thinking productions but also some pop songs…oh and the lyrics are very exposed. It’s by far my most honest lyrics.

What has been the hardest part of being in the music industry for you?

The hardest part for me in being in the music industry is that the industry usually want you to play by it’s rules and tell you how it works, mainly if you’re a girl. i feel like it took me time till I got to the place where I feel like industry people get that I know my shit and i know what I’m about. I also don’t really enjoy all of the mingling shit…I always prefer to just stay at home and make music lol.adi Pic by Shir RosenthalTell us a bit about your early days and how they differ from now?

Well…I have to say that in some ways, not a lot has changed for me since my early days (mainly in the creation process) because I was always lead by exploring and trying new things, and it’s still totally like that today. The main thing that maybe did change is that i kinda feel like i know myself more today, and i’m more aware of my strengths and weaknesses and know how to work with them instead of fighting them.

Who/what has helped you the most get to where you are today?

Just following my gut instinct, doing what my heart tells me and never trying to fit in or do what’s ‘cool’ or acceptable. I started producing cause I felt like that’s my destiny even though the whole world around me was trying to tell me that it’s not a job for girls and that I should focus on singing and writing. I used loads of fx on my voice cause I felt it’s more unique, forward thinking and edgy than just being another ‘regular’ singer. I always do what feels good TO ME and I think people can sense that and appreciate it.

Which animal would best suit your personality?

Cat. I’m totally a crazy cat girl. I adopted a disabled kitten a few months ago and she is everything!

What kind of music are you listening these days?

In the last few days I’ve been listening only to Frank Ocean’s new album and PartyNextDoor’s album. Can’t stop listen to them! But generally I listen mainly to artists such as Travis Scott, Kanye, Anderson Paak, Tory Lanez etc. mainly r&b and hip hop. I like heavy dirty beats 🙂

Tell us about your next show and why we should be there

My next show is going to be as the support act for Major Lazer in Tel Aviv. I’m super excited about this. And why should you be there?…Well u should just come and see for yourself 😉
