There may come a time when you embark on a weight loss plan and then you hit a plateau. No matter what you do, you reach a point when you can’t seem to lose weight any longer. Some people may also be disappointed with not experiencing results at the same rate they did when they started. This is very common since exercise is more demanding when you’re heavier, and even a little bit can have greater effects. But it’s not always the case as you go on, and some people may even start gaining back weight. Let’s take a look at a few possible reasons why you aren’t able to get rid of these pesky pounds.
You’re Drinking Your Calories
You’d be surprised at how many people ruin their weight loss efforts simply because of the things they drink. As a matter of fact, it’s not uncommon for people to consume more calories in drinks than they do in food. And that leaves many of them baffled. They don’t understand how they can eat so little but still not be able to lose weight. But that’s only because they don’t understand how many calories there are in the drinks they’re consuming.
A cup of coffee with sugar and milk could set you back 100 calories depending on how you like it. Have 5 of these and you have the equivalent of a Big Mac. Shocking, right? Coffee is also one of the least calorie-dense drinks there are. Something like a glass of fruit juice, even natural, could add around 150 calories to your daily intake. This is around the same as a 330ml can of Coca-Cola. And don’t get us started on those towers of sugar they sell at places like Starbucks.
So, if you’re going to drink, make sure that you go for water or low-calorie options. If you absolutely need juice, then we would suggest you go with low sugar options, but be careful with artificial sweeteners. You can also dilute some of the juice with water. You’ll notice that you can swap around a third of juice for water in most cases and get pretty much the same taste. This is a quick and easy way to cut your calorie intake.
Too Many Simple Carbs
If you’re eating a lot of white pasta and bread, then losing weight will be an uphill battle. There is only one use for simple carbs when losing weight, and that’s for energy. Simple carbs are good if you need energy for a training session or endurance work. Besides that, you want to concentrate on complex carbs that will give you energy for a long time and won’t be converted to fat as fast.
Too Many Calories
The best and only way to lose weight is to consume more calories than you take in, it’s as simple as that. If you manage to do that, you will lose weight no matter what. The issue is that too many people don’t know how many calories they need, and then they don’t take the time to document what they eat. The generally recommended intake is around 2000 calories for women and 2500 for men. If you stay under that threshold, it will be difficult not to lose weight.
One of the best ways to do this is to leave calories for the most important meal of the day and allow yourself to have at least one meal that you enjoy. For instance, an 800-calorie meal for a woman or 1200 for a man will leave you plenty of space to have food you enjoy and still lose weight. The important part is keeping the other meals small.
What you could do is reserve your cheat meal for the middle of the day or supper depending on which one is more important to you. You can then swap the other meal for something like a meal replacement shake. If you’re looking for shakes that will both taste great and help you lose weight, Shake That Weight has a wide variety of shakes that you can choose from. If you want more information about what they have to offer, you can see their products here. They also have tons of other weight loss products like pasta, noodles, cereals, and more. Their products will allow you to eat the things you love without going over your calorie limit.
You Have No Muscle Mass
Don’t focus only on cardio. Not only is it the most tedious part of training, but it’s not even the best way to lose weight. You need both cardio and strength training if you want to get steady results. Muscle mass will throw your metabolism into overdrive and allow you to burn fat 24/7. It’ll also allow you to lose weight in the way you want it and not get the “skinny fat” look, which indicates poor physical condition.
As you can see, there are many possible causes for your inability to lose weight. Take a long hard look at your daily habits and routine and see where there could be room for improvement.
