Brighton-based Birdeatsbaby inhabit a world far, far removed from the mundane, scuffed-Converse drear of contemporary indie rock.
Imagine Zola Jesus meets New York Tenderbury era Laura Nyro via a Tim Burton film soundtracked by Diamanda Galas and you’re close to the vampish, deathly serious, chamber-goth romp of a noise they conspire to create.
The Indie Handbook recently described the band as ‘Gothic, in the Revival sense’.
Indeed, there is a bleak beauty at the heart of this outfit.
Working with renowned producer Jason Rubal (Dresden Dolls, The Cure) on their debut album helped Birdeatsbaby to exercise and channel their dark, musical demons in a bigger, defined and confident way.
‘Incitatus’ displays all the hallmarks of a band wishing to progress their sound as evidenced by the doomy, digitally refracted re-mulch courtesy of Avon Bosco.
Birdeatsbaby are beautiful and sinister, fragile yet aggressive, light surrounded by shadow. A thrilling proposition, fabulous freakery personified.

London purveyors of quirky noir-ish tunes Phantom have been a bewitching collective to monitor over recent years, fans of their particular brand of music will be pleased to hear that there are some distinct links between their work and this new release.
Atom Eye is a new solo project by Phantom front woman Elsie Martins and it is a remarkable adventure into the realms of experimental music.
Genuinely offbeat and out there at times Atom Eye’s first part of their Trilogy offers up a view into Martins’ own musical landscape of sound art style structure.
Trilogy Part 1 is not simply a standalone piece (as it will weave itself into the overall sound of all three pieces when they are released to create a whole musical entity/vision), but it does have its own style and substance (influenced in part by guest percussionist Pete Lockett), the dark and rich elements of experimentation combined with analogue tapes, looping and reel-to-reel systems all work to build up the vision of a musical adventure, that has style and creativity in abundance.
Atom Eye’s works are a great introduction into a musical genre that whilst specialist in its nature, can be a fun one to explore.
This offering from Miss Martins may just tick all of the boxes in letting new listeners gain access to the world of experimental music. The fact that these singles will be free to download make it all the more reason to give them a shot.
Part I will be released on La Nausee Records on 6th February 2012. Part II and III of the Trilogy 120 EP will be released on 12th March and 30th April respectively.
Atom Eye – ‘Trilogy 120 Part 1’ will be available as free download (from Monday 6th Feb) at atomeyemusic.com/atomeye.cfm. By Phil Allely

‘Say What?’ the debut single from Up and Coming singer songwriter/actor from Florida, David Fuit, is released on the 23rd of February.
David also co-stars in the art house film ‘Caroline and Jackie’, which will be in cinemas later this year.
As cool and breezy as the Floridian lifestyle into which he was raised, David Fuit, is one of those artists that once you’ve heard, you just don’t forget.
There’s more to this young artist than blonde-haired, blue-eyed good looks suggest.
Deep smooth vocals drop effortlessly over a cool, funky guitar with sounds of “I just don’t give a damn!”
If he ever had doubt of his ability as an artist, it became clear when he first wrote and recorded “Say What?!” while living in a dumpy apartment in Los Angeles.
“While driving home after recording the first demo of the song with my windows down- a group of peers next to me, who were stopped at a stoplight yelled over to my car “Hey what are you listening to? That song sounds awesome!” Recalls David.
“It was one of the coolest things ever to happen to me…still is.”
“You’ll probably see me on the Grammys, what can I say .I’ll be sipping on bubbly with Colbie Caillat”
“We’ll be heading to the backroom to let our tracks boom”
“Tell my family I’ll miss them”
“Let’em know I’ll be back soon” David Fuit is One To Watch in 2012
To celebrate the release of their debut album ‘Illuminated People’ last week, Islet announced their first live tour for 2012, bringing their incredible live show across the UK throughout May and June.
Islet’s vision appears to be that of limitless possibilities, not in the sense of the po-faced pedal hoarder, but in the simple joy of exploration.
That’s what Illuminated People is; an album that drips with pride and the refusal to stand still, and ultimately one that fizzes with a sense of sheer enjoyment that came through making it.
Islet are a group of people completely in charge of their own destiny, through their music you can tell that’s an extremely liberating thought. isletislet.com turnstilemusic.net
Ever wondered what you do when you have been going through there motions work wise and have that feeling that you are not getting what you want from your chosen profession anymore?
Well this trio of veteran German rockers did just that, they took things into their own hands and opted to make the kind of music they enjoy and want to listen to, rather than the sort that felt they had to.
Nitrogods was born from that very notion, the band , members may not be household names across the globe, but they do have the necessary skills and experience to justify such a leap of faith as this self-title CD.
Singer/bassist Oimel Larcher’s growling vocals shine through each track here, from the hard and heavy efforts to tamer middle of the road fare, he never fails to deliver the goods.
Band mates Henny Wolter and Klaus Sperling round of the outfit perfectly, each bringing the desired level of commitment and this new and exciting project deserves.
Nitrogods are taking a gamble here with their unrestricted approach to song writing. However the twelve tracks here are a testimony to the way in which this lyrically sound and well-honed unit write, perform and work together.
If you like you music loud, honest, dirty, aggressive and with just a touch of melancholy then this is right up your street.
Nitrogods is released on February 27 2012 in Europe and February 24 2012 in their native Germany, a US/Canada release date is TBC.

Celebrated house duo Loverush UK have teamed up with rock legend Bryan Adams to create the future club classic ‘Tonight In Babylon’.
“Bryan’s writing and his voice inspired us to work with him,” says Loverush UK’s Mark Schneider about the collaboration.
“‘Run To You’ and the epic ‘Don’t Give Up’ with Chicane are massive dance classics for us. Bryan’s writing and his voice have always inspired us to work with him. We reached out to Bryan and he sent a song for us to work around. Within a week we sent back a full instrumental track, Bryan was in Australia at the time and laid down the vocals there. It was such a buzz to hear Bryan’s song and vocal on top of the production.”
The video was directed by Bryan himself and features Roman Polanski’s daughter. Loverush UK featuring Bryan Adams

The Royal Rumble is one of the WWE’s most popular, talked about and often exciting events on its Pay-Per-View calendar.
The 2012 effort may not join some its predecessors in historic terms, but it did offer up some interesting encounters/results and it did (as it should) pave the way for event of the year WrestleMania.
Opening up with a steel cage match, the Rumble tried its utmost to build a decent level of momentum to carry the live crowd and viewing audience through to the all-important 30 man over the top main event.Said cage match saw World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan face off against the huge lumbering duo of Mark Henry and Big Show.
Although average at best this was a decent bout for all concerned (considering the opponent for Bryan’s gold).
Bryan fared well against the mighty power of Henry/Show and escaped the cage to retain his belt and hopefully progress to a more worthy championship defence at Mania.
Next up was a hastily thrown together Divas encounter, which to be honest only ate into valuable ring time. The teams of Beth (Divas Champ) Phoenix, Natalya and the Bella Twins facing off against the quartet of Kelly Kelly, Tamina, Alicia Fox and Eve Torres. The ladies tried their best, but the short length of the match and talent on offer reduced the quality here.
Phoenix nailed a reasonable Glam Slam to take the win for her team after some back and forth action.
Kane’s return under his mask once again has seen his character back at its more edgy self.
The match between him and perennial main eventer John Cena was an adequate effort from both, Cena especially was on the receiving end of some serious fan reaction.
His heel turn teasing continued (but will probably never happen) and Kane showed no sign in losing any of the momentum his newly rejuvenated character has gained.
Kane’s monstrous nature came to the fore throughout the match, he took a beating from Cena, but kept on ticking.
The pair ended up being counted out for a non-decision, although a laughing Kane decided to take things further by brutalising both Cena and Zack Ryder, leaving them prone in the ring as he strode off in celebration.
In another bonus match the repackaged Brodus Clay tackled Drew McIntyre in an unfortunately poor (squash style) encounter. Clay nailed his ‘What the Funk’ finisher to net himself the win.
The match of the night (as expected) was the semi-main event pitting Dolph Ziggler against WWE Champion CM Punk. John Laurinaitis as guest referee proved inconsequential, when push came to shove.
Both combatants shone and although we never expected Ziggler to net the title, he did try. Punk true to form overcame the eager Ziggler by nailing a nice GTS to retain his gold and taking another step towards WrestleMania.
The main event Royal Rumble was lacking star power at times, but the performers on hand did make the most of their time in the ring.
With a short 90 seconds gap between each participant it was really a case of make your entrance, hit a move and then move aside as the next combatant arrived on the scene.
Highlights were Mick Foley having a Socko versus Cobra stand-off with Santino Marella, Kharma making her Rumble debut (and in-ring return), Ricardo Rodriguez lampooning his former cohort Alberto Del Rio (with cheap car etc.), legend hacksaw Jim Duggan entering to a healthy pop from the live crowd, former DX member Road Dogg making a re-appearance and the entire announce team (Booker T, Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler) dipped in for some ring time too.
The rumble boiled down to match favourite Chris Jericho and Irish tough guy Sheamus, both worked hard to create tension and tease the decision.
Jericho took the advantage on several occasions before Sheamus countered a ‘codebreaker’ and nailed a nice loking ‘brogue kick’ to send his foe over the top rope and himself into the history books.
Royal Rumble 2012 was a mixed bag of matches, but it did serve its purpose, the road to WrestleMania is looking good and having a guy like Sheamus win a title shot at the biggest event of year certainly makes things interesting. By Phil Allely
