Set in Saudi Arabia, JOUD (pronounced ‘Jude’) is a stunning non-narrative and music driven movie, an unconventional meditation on the cycle of life – but in reverse. A film that challenges viewers to look below the surface of everyday experiences and contemplate its Arabic title, translated as “generosity in the face of scarcity”…This is an ancient poem for modern times.
JOUD uses an experimental story structure derived from a pre-Islamic form of poetry, the Qasida. It’s produced by Abdullah Aleyaf and Todd Albert Nims for Ithra in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in association with UK’s The Edge Picture Company’s production team.
Film producer Abdullah Aleyaf said: “Joud is an unprecedented cinematic experience for the Kingdom on many levels. We feel that its uniqueness and originality will open people’s eyes to the rich stories preserved within the Saudi heart and land.”
