Ria Hall’s album ‘Rules Of Engagement’, is about love, war, revolution and change. She proudly describes herself as “unapologetically Māori, unreservedly Pākehā. Dreaming of unity and wondering how to get there – adding – Music is my mechanism to effect change…”
The album’s standout track ‘Black Light’, featuring Electric Wire Hustle front man Mara TK, comes with this dazzling tribute to the work of the great Māori visual artist Ralph Hotere.
The album is a concept project inspired by New Zealand’s Battle of Gate Pa in 1864. Hall states…“there is so much richness that New Zealand music can take on the world. We haven’t released our own potential – and that’s exciting”.
