London based, 21-year-old songstress, Ellie Rose, presents her lushly smart debut track ‘Welcome To The Kingdom’ and talks about students taking “their freedom a little too far”, how to get rid of all the glitter in her hair and wearing mum’s clothes from the 80s…
Ellie says: “The concept is that the Kingdom offers you whatever you want – but don’t take that freedom too far.”
How are you Ellie? What’s on your mind right now?
Hiya, very well thanks. I’m contemplating how long it will take to get rid of all the glitter in my hair from my weekend antics.
Tell us everything we should know about your track ‘Welcome To The Kingdom’.
Welcome To The Kingdom is an introduction to a series of songs I’ve written about the past couple of years of my life. It’s a song about my fear of wasting opportunities.
What inspired you to write it?
An incident at a school I went to. A couple of students took their freedom a little too far and it made me worry about the opportunities I had ahead of me and how careful I need to be not to waste them.Describe your sound in 5 words…
Honest, thoughtful, quirky, mysterious, bohemian.
Which animal would best suit your personality?
Probably a lion.
What kind of music are you listening these days?
I’m usually listening to the likes of Billy Idol, Kate Bush, Madonna and Adam Ant but recently I’ve been digging The Neighbourhood, Melanie Martinez and The 1975.
What was the first album you purchased?
“Let it Go” by Avril Lavigne. I was a big fan.
Tell us about your next show and why we should be there.
It’s at The Old Blue Last on Thursday 26th January. I’m playing lots of new material and will most likely be dressed as a bride. If that doesn’t intrigue you, I don’t know what will!
How would you describe your fashion style?
I wear a lot of my mum’s clothes from the 80s. A boy I once dated described my style as “an out of work clown meets a distressed fortune teller”…not sure what that means though.
