UMLILO ‘THE ELEMENTS’: “DARK SYNTH POP MIXED WITH KWAAI BEATS AND AFRO POP AESTHETIC”
Cape Town based exciting performance artist, singer and producer Umlilo shares the rather strong track ‘The Elements’, taken from of his impressive debut EP ‘Shades of Kwaai’.
The moody track is an existential exploration fusing electronic textures with multi-layered vocals over a dub beat. ‘The Elements’ is the second single after his amazing debut single ‘Living Dangerously’ featuring Cape Town rapper, Kyla Phil.
The EP explores the new territory of post-kwaito and township tech fusing smooth vocals and harmonies with dark synth pop mixed with kwaai beats and an afro pop aesthetic. The album was co-produced and mastered by Ross Dorkin (bassist for Beatenberg) adding Umlilo’s signature sound dubbed ‘future kwaai’ which pushes the boundaries of Kwaito, Electro and Postdub.
