‘Rethink Revamp Restyle’ will close the first phase of its workshop programme with an action-packed open day at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on 14 May. Bringing together communities from across north, south, east and west Belfast the collective showcase event, sponsored by the Department of the Environment’s Rethink Waste campaign, will offer the public an insight of how easy it is to ‘rethink’ waste in the home.
The day will kick off at 11am with a talk by popular green blogger and yummy mummy Rebecca Volley. Known online as the Green Sheen Blogger, Rebecca will be giving mums tips on how to be green with tots in tow.
Later in the afternoon she will be addressing a wider audience on how to actively reduce lifestyle waste with minimal hassle and cost.
Throughout the day visitors will be treated to demonstrations from local designers on how to rework old jumpers into cushion and hot water bottle covers, revamp furniture and revive textiles.
Guests can browse a 3D exhibition showcasing the work completed by participants during the eight week workshop programme and shop at the Home Souk market created for the occasion.
The project, delivered in association with Belfast City Council Waste Management saw the popular Fashion Souk deliver 40 workshops at centres across the city between March and May.
The Fashion Souk’s talented team of experts shared their top tips on restyling and refurbishing textiles and furniture.
Fashion Souk Director Alyson McElroy said, “The Reuse ethos is at the heart of everything we do. This programme of workshops is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how easy it is to breathe new life into unwanted items and reduce waste to landfill.”
