RIHANNA: SURVIVING THE BAD TIMES
Marie Claire magazine December cover star, Rihanna, is beautiful in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci and Loutboutin heels. She’s the toast of the music industry and the hottest talent around.
The fashion magazine caught up with the Rude Boy superstar to talk about surviving the bad times, learning to love her imperfections, and how she is happier and stronger than ever.
Rihanna shone in a glittering Mark Fast dress and sparkly Solange Azagury-Partridge earrings, rocking newly fiery locks for the pictures. ‘She’s been dying to go red for ages!’ cosmetic queen and makeup artist Karin Darnell said of the star. ‘That’s why she’s such a style icon, because she’s constantly changing – a true chameleon.’
Showing off some showstopping pins in a dramatic Sonia Rykiel dress and towering Manolo Blahnik heels, Rihanna reveals it was only a matter time before she got her life back on track.
‘I needed that wake-up call in my life. I needed a turning point, and that’s what God was giving to me,’ she said. ‘All this terrible stuff they say to you, it breaks you down. [But] once you’re back on your feet – if you ever make it back on your feet – that’s the ultimate achievement.’
And now dating LA Dodgers star Matt Kemp, Rihanna has finally moved on, and says she is blissfully happy once again.
‘I feel like I smile for real this time,’ she says. ‘The smiles come from inside, and it exudes in everything I do. People feel my energy is different. When I smile they can tell that it’s pure bliss and not just a cover up.’
Does she believe in destiny?
‘Definitely. And I never did before. The most important thing is to be happy and true to yourself. I don’t want to look back at this 30 years from now and say, “I did it all to make them happy and I didn’t enjoy.” I want to be able to say people loved me because of who I am.’
The full interview with Rihanna is in Marie Claire’s December issue, on newsstands Thursday 28th November.
