SEXY Belfast model Katie Larmour has just returned from her own holiday disaster despite being shortlisted as an FHM Holiday Honey.
Katie, 26, who is also a TV presenter, appears in this month’s issue of FHM, but ended up having to run her campaign from Egypt when she got stranded due to flight cancellations last week.
The gorgeous star ended up staying an extra six days following the volcanic ash from Iceland meant all flights in and out of the UK and Ireland were cancelled.
We turned up to Sharm El-Skeik International Airport on the day our flight was due to leave and it was absolutely crammed with holiday makers said Katie.
The first we heard of the flights being cancelled was when we arrived at the airport. There was a serious lack of communication as passengers with our airline, other passengers on other airlines had received emails telling them what had happened.
We just kept getting told our flight was delayed all day instead of just telling us it would be cancelled and letting us get settled. We ended up in the airport from early in the morning right through until 9pm that night before we knew what was happening.
The place was full of angry and irate people, queues of people for all the toilets, people sitting and sleeping on the floor.
It was really stressful. To have had such a lovely holiday and then have to deal with that on the way home ruined the holiday a bit for me.
All the reps had scarpered which would have been ok had they have told us what was going on – then at least I could have been relaxing by the pool as it got sorted out.
And of course Katie, like most people, had even got rid of all her foreign currency on the way to the airport so had to go about trying to get money changed.
However, while she said her extra six days in the country were stressful Katie revealed it also turned out to be one of the most romantic holidays she’s ever been on.
She said: Although it was a really stressful experience to begin with, especially since I was due to start a new presenting job when I got back it also turned out to be an incredibly romantic journey.
I went to Egypt with my boyfriend Harry and it was our first holiday together outside of going away for the weekend to London and things like that.
Of course I could have got really angry and annoyed about the whole thing but we decided to make the most of what was an extended holiday.
It certainly was a bit of an adventure, we stayed in nearly every hotel in Sharm El Sheik.
Unlike most of the girls in the competition Katie is a different type of Holiday Honey and claims she’s not a stereotypical beach babe.
She added: I absolutely love traveling but I don’t really go for the types of holidays where you just go away to the sun and read a book for a week and party.
The way I see it is if you’re going to experience a new country it’s best to explore everything about the culture and tourist attractions as well as the bits people rarely see.
I absolutely love watching shows on TV about other countries. I am intrigued and fascinated by other cultures and countries.
And at just 26 Katie already has a passport stamp collection most could never dream of.
She took a year out after graduating with a Fine Art Degree from the University of Ulster.
I love to explore and no matter where I go I always try to find the local museums and art galleries.
Some of my traveling highlights include from going to see the Turkish baths in the historic Gelhert Hotel in Budapest, wandering around Pompeii, sailing into the port of Malta, shopping in the Souks of Morocco and Tunisia, the Red Light district in Amsterdam, winning money in the Crown Casino Melbourne, wine tasting in vineyards in the Loire Valley and listening to live music in Cuba to the Christmas markets in Prague, bathing in healing springs in Hakone outside Tokyo, viewing the last Super in Milan and watching the F1 racing from the pits in Monaco as well as modelling a million dollar wedding dress in Dubai, seeing Klim’s Kiss In Vienna, visiting temples in Singapore, having a Renaissance tour in Florence, visiting the Primitive artists on Tory Island and being greeted by the King himself, Gaudi’s surreal architecture and public parks in Barcelona, the Hermitage in Russia, Irish dancing on tour in North Dakota, and camping in the desert in Oman.
With such an impressive list of holiday experiences Katie, who was shortlisted from 13,875 entries, is definitely one of the most traveled contestants in the competition.
Votes for Katie can be cast online at www.fhm.com/honeys and voting will be open until April 28, 2010. The top ten will be announced in the July issue of FHM which hits the shelves on 3 June.
