92607060BD011_Classic_Rock_The ‘Tommy Vance Inspiration Award’ went to the late, great John Bonham – Led Zeppelin’s legendary drummer and the ‘embodiment of all that is rock’, who, along with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, formed one of the world’s greatest rock groups of all time. Bonham’s mother and sister collected the award in his honour.

Former Cream drummer Ginger Baker was honoured as the Classic Rock magazine ‘Innovator’ for his pioneering rhythm techniques and indelible influence. A jazz drummer ‘who embraced and enlivened rock’, Baker’s 40-year career is testament to his ability to fuse music styles and remain cutting-edge.

That’s not all. The crown jewels of the heavy rock and metal world were on the receiving end of Classic Rock honours too, as voted for by readers of Classic Rock magazine.

AC/DC won the reader-voted award for ‘Album Of The Year’ for Black Ice.

Commemorating their spectacular achievements of touring around the world last year, the adventures of which created the film Flight 666, Iron Maiden were honoured with the prestigious ‘Band Of The Year’ award (sponsored by Guitar Hero) and were there on the night to personally accept – as was Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, who was given the award for ‘Best Reissue’ (sponsored by Live Nation) for the deluxe re-releases of Black Sabbath’s first three albums: Black Sabbath, Paranoid and Master Of Reality.

The ‘Best New Band’ award (sponsored by Mean Fiddler) went to Chickenfoot, and they beat off worthy competition from Roadrunner Records’ The Parlor Mob and Steadlür, Diagonal, Crippled Black Phoenix and New Device.

‘DVD / Film Of The Year’ (sponsored by Play.com) went to Canadian metallers Anvil for their rockumentary Anvil! The Story Of Anvil.

Live Nation VP of Promotions Andy Copping picked up ‘Event Of The Year’ (sponsored by Alchemy) for the Download Festival, which this year saw some outstanding performances by the likes of Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Whitesnake and Faith No More.

Classic Rock’s Editor In Chief Scott Rowley said:
“It’s nice to end the decade on a high, with the fifth and most star-studded Classic Rock Roll Of Honour. Classic Rock is the UK’s fastest-growing music monthly – and the ONLY one whose sales went up in 2009. It’s going to be a very heavy 2010…”
