BELSONIC today announced details of it’s August bank holiday weekend return to Belfast’s Custom House Square. Sure to be Northern Ireland’s biggest summer event, BELSONIC is again bringing an exciting and imaginative international lineup to the city centre.
Dizzee Rascal, the London born rapper and producer, and recent chart topper with Bonkers, will headline on the opening night alongside New York City’s Vampire Weekend, whose indie rock mixed with joyful Afro-pop-inspired melodies and rhythms was one of the defining sounds of the last year.
They top the bill on Belsonic 09’s opening night, Thursday 27th August. Acclaimed Belgian duo 2Manydjs, the team behind Soulwax, will present their brand new live audio-visual production, which is closing summer festival stages across the UK and Europe this summer, on Friday 28th August.

Northern Ireland’s very own Duke Special will curate Dukebox – a one day event in it’s own right within Belsonic – on Saturday 29th August. As well as a headlining appearance, it will feature friends and special guests from the world of music and other performance arts, including Irish chart topping rock band Bell X1.
Last year’s BELSONIC was a huge success, with The Flaming Lips, The Zutons, The Enemy, The Go! Team and Mogwai among the artists appearing. The event won many plaudits from the concert going public and visiting performers, with the beautiful central loctation and the quality of the production and the services on site winning universal praise.
Alan Simms of Shine Productions and The Stiff Kitten, one of the organising team behind BELSONIC oday. “We are delighted to bring the event back to Belfast this August Bank Holiday weekend, and we plan to really up the ante, in terms of production, amenities and of course the music†he said. “The feedback last year was amazing and it really inspired us to do it again, and better!”
Tickets for the three days of BELSONIC will go on sale at 9.00am on Wednesday 1st July from Ticketmaster and their usual outlets, as well as from The Stiff Kitten. Each day is priced the same, at £29 plus booking fees.
