A BRAVE rape survivor followed her ambition to make a difference last night as she took to the catwalk at the Fall For Fashion event at St George’s Market in Belfast. Christine Bennett from Belfast, was raped in her home last year as she lay sleeping. Last month her attacker, Anthony West, was jailed for 11 years for the brutal crime.
The 20-year-old was left traumatised and turned to the Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Centre for support.
And now she has waived her right to anonymity to show her support for the charity which helped her survive and rebuild her life.
Christine walked in the fashion show to raise funds for the cash-strapped Centre.
Speaking before her fashion debut she said: “I’m really nervous and excited about going on the catwalk tonight, and all sorts of things are going though my mind, like what if I fall.
“I feel I need to do this first and foremost for myself, and also for everyone in the Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre who have supported me through my worst nightmare.
“It’s been a big challenge for me and I’ve reconsidered a couple of times, but this is a positive step in my survival and I won’t let anyone stop me.
“The benefit and the upside of this is I get to wear a dress by Girbaud, shoes by Evol and jewellery by Eleanor Ford.
“I’m also getting my hair and make-up done by the best in Northern Ireland”.
Christine, flanked by two gorgeous male models, wore a stunning French navy Girbaud puffball dress from Nine Chichester Street. Her hair was done by Suzan Manning artistic director of Zuni Hair while leading make-up artist Oonagh Bowman finished her look.
The Magner’s Light Fall For Fashion event will donate a percentage of ticket sales and 100 per cent of programme sales to the Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Centre.
