The Enemy and Reverend And The Makers at BELSONIC
THE ENEMY return to Belfast to headline the now third announced day at BELSONIC, the city’s newest and freshest contemporary music event.
The young Coventry band went straight to Number 1 in the UK Albums chart with debut album We’ll Live and Die in These Towns last summer, and spent the winter playing numerous sold out shows, including opening for The Rolling Stones in London. A string of awards followed the album and it spawned 5 back to back top 40 singles.
Sheffield band REVEREND AND THE MAKERS are fronted by Jon “The Reverend”.McClure, His down-to-earth, cynical and observant outlook on modern-day life are captured in the songs. Turning down majors to sign for Wall Of Sound, they broke through with a top ten hit in debut single Heavyweight Champion of the World. The band went on to complete a hat trick of indie number one singles, and then scored a top 5 album with The State of Things toward the end of 2007.
FIGHTING WITH WIRE hail from Derry. Drawing influence from such bands as At the Drive-In, Weezer and Fugazi, they released Man vs Monster on Smalltown America in 2007 . The record and their incendiary live performances drew wider attention, and saw them sign with major Atlantic Records earlier this year.
FUTURE OF THE LEFT’s debut Curses was the calling card of a band meaning business, and you wouldn’t expect anything less either, consisting, as they do, of two ex-members of the now defunct Mclusky and one ex-member of the now defunct Jarcrew. Snarling vocals/guitar and fuzzy basslines combine with throbbing drum beats, creating frenzied beasts of tunes.
Mid Ulster young guns GENERAL FIASCO have all the ingredients for stardom and despite their youth are already becoming serious contenders. With a bagful of insanely catchy songs they have been turning heads locally and further afield of late.
