Cirque du Soleil heading for the Odyssey
By Paul Millar
BELFAST’S Odyssey Arena hosts Cirque du Soleil’s live music & multimedia event ‘Delirium’ on Sat 12/Sun 13 April. Presenting their breathtaking and elevated performance for the first time in Northern Ireland, the story of Delirium links to a thoroughly new modern & urban experience – the quest for balance in a world that is increasingly out of sync.
Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun) is an entertainment empire based in Montreal, Canada. It was founded in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier.
No ring or animals helped make Cirque du Soleil the modern circus that it is today. Each show is a synthesis of circus styles from around the world and has its own central theme and storyline that brings the audience into the performance by having no curtains, continuous live music and performers change the props.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s Cirque expanded rapidly and went from one show with 73 employees in 1984 to 3,500 employees from over 40 countries.
