BOXING star and Hell’s Kitchen winner Barry McGuigan has recruited a host of celebrity pals for a charity event next week.
And the Northern Ireland sportsman has even managed to get them to join him on stage to entertain the guests.
Barry will host Le Grand Ball at the Europa Hotel next Saturday October 20 in aid of the Integrated Education Fund.
The 18th Century France themed event is being organised by BC Plant JCB Ltd for in excess of 400 guests and is expected to raise tens of thousands of much needed funds for the organisation.
Barry will be joined on stage at the event by former Formula One boss Eddie Jordan and his band, actor Adrian Dunbar and Frank Carson among other celebrity guests.
“It’s going to be a fantastic night†said Barry.
“We have a great night lined up. Eddie and his band will be up on stage, Eddie’s very close to the cause – infact closer than you think I’m actually on Eddie’s yacht in Nice on the way to St Tropez but we’ll be back on time.
“And Aidie Dunbar and his band will be doing their thing of course – he has a fabulous voice.
“You never know we might do a number together – but no matter what I’ll be taking to the stage myself.â€
When asked to host this year’s ball Barry said he didn’t even have to think twice.
He added: “I said yes immediately, even if I had have had something else on I would have put it off because the IEF is a very, very important part of my life.
“I have always supported integrated education and I will continue to do so.
“Integrated education is one of the biggest success stories in Northern Ireland history, if you look back at it, it started off as a couple of very, very committed people and it’s a fabulous success story.
“I’m delighted to be associated with it and I’m honoured to have been asked to host the ball next week.â€
And one person who’ll have to watch out on the night is the Europa’s Head Chef.
“I’ll be keeping my eye on the food on the night†said Barry.
“I think I’ll manage to keep myself out of the kitchen but we’re all looking forward to some great food.
“The good thing about being on Hell’s Kitchen is that you develop a refined palate and you can really taste when food is good or bad. I’m sure the Euopa will be excellent.
“I hope they’re serving up a good quality mash – it’s a particular favourite of mineâ€.
